Luxury automaker Porsche has announced a collaboration with Swiss gaming platform AirConsole to integrate in-car gaming into the upcoming Macan model, marking another milestone in the automotive industry's embrace of connected entertainment.
The partnership will see AirConsole's smartphone-controlled gaming platform integrated into Porsche's infotainment system, allowing passengers to play multiplayer games using their phones as controllers. The service will launch with the new Macan later this year across all markets where Porsche Connect is available, excluding China.
Gaming While Stationary and On the Move
The system operates differently depending on whether the vehicle is parked or in motion. When stationary, all occupants including the driver can participate in gaming sessions through the central infotainment display. Once driving begins, games shift to the front passenger display, ensuring the driver remains focused on the road while non-driving passengers continue playing.
Porsche has incorporated screen privacy features to prevent driver distraction, maintaining safety standards while enabling passenger entertainment during travel.
Simple Setup, No Additional Hardware
AirConsole will be accessible through Porsche's App Center as part of the Porsche Connect connectivity package. Setup requires passengers to download the app and scan a QR code to connect their smartphones as controllers. The platform supports up to five simultaneous players, enabling both collaborative and competitive gaming experiences.
Curated Game Library
The gaming catalog focuses on casual, short-session titles optimized for the automotive environment. The initial library includes popular franchises such as "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" from Sony Pictures Television, "Overcooked" from Team17, and "UNO Car Party!" from Mattel. AirConsole plans to continuously expand the available titles across genres including racing, trivia, party games, and sports.
AirConsole's Automotive Growth
Founded in Zurich, AirConsole has rapidly expanded its automotive presence since launching its in-car platform in July 2023. The company has released over 40 game titles across various automotive partnerships and handles the complete integration process with car manufacturers, from technical implementation to content curation and third-party game development.
"Our collaboration with Porsche is a powerful signal of how quickly AirConsole is scaling in the automotive industry," said Anthony Cliquot, CEO of AirConsole. "In just two years since launching our in-car platform, we've partnered with some of the world's most respected car brands, now including Porsche."
Industry Showcase
The partnership will be highlighted at the upcoming IAA Motor Show in Munich, Germany, where Cliquot will present alongside the Porsche team on September 10 at 1 PM. The presentation will focus on the role of in-car gaming in future mobility solutions and the strategic significance of the Porsche collaboration.
The integration represents part of a broader trend toward connected vehicle experiences, as automakers seek to differentiate their offerings through enhanced passenger entertainment and connectivity features during both stationary periods and travel.
