OpenAI is accelerating its global education strategy, announcing the next phase of its Education for Countries program. The initiative aims to integrate AI tools into national education systems through government-led research partnerships.

The program emphasizes a research-driven approach, localizing AI tools like ChatGPT and Codex for educational contexts, and providing teacher training. The goal is to build evidence for safe and effective AI use in learning environments.

Early Adopters and Results

The first cohort includes Estonia, Greece, Italy, Slovakia, Trinidad & Tobago, Kazakhstan, the UAE, and Jordan. These nations are piloting AI deployments to improve learning outcomes and economic opportunities.

Estonia is leveraging ChatGPT Edu for over 20,000 students and 4,600 teachers, focusing on localization and measuring AI's impact on learning. Research collaborations with universities are underway, with findings to be shared publicly.

Jordan has seen over 1 million students and 100,000 teachers engage with its AI Education Assistant, Siraj. Kazakhstan reported 84,000 educators completing AI readiness training, with high reported usefulness of ChatGPT Edu.

In Slovakia, university educators reported increased productivity, saving approximately 5 hours per week. A Ministry of Education team utilized Workspace Agents to expedite the drafting of teacher professional standards.

Singapore Joins the Initiative
