LocalStack, the pioneer in local cloud development, raised $25 million in Series A funding to drive its mission of empowering developers to build and test cloud applications locally. The round was led by Notable Capital with participation from CRV and Heavybit.
With over 8 million weekly sessions, 280 million Docker pulls, and a rapidly growing user base of over 900 paying customers, including SiriusXM and Chime, LocalStack is the de facto standard for AWS development on local machines. Their platform accelerates development cycles by reducing deployment times from 28 minutes to just 24 seconds. With such savings, they allow teams to run, test, and debug applications locally without relying on live AWS accounts.
“The centralized nature of cloud computing has created unprecedented complexity and costs,” said Gerta Sheganaku, co-founder and Co-CEO of LocalStack. “We’re putting control back in developers’ hands, giving them the flexibility and speed they need to innovate without the roadblocks of cloud testing.”
By bringing the AWS environment to developers' laptops, LocalStack eliminates unnecessary cloud spending and gives developers the ability to work on complex infrastructure changes and feature testing without IAM configuration hurdles or costly cloud setups. LocalStack's platform supports over 100 AWS services and creates a localized sandbox environment.
Their following is massive: over 56,000 GitHub stars, 25,000 Slack users, and over 500 contributors globally. “LocalStack stands out for its rare combination of grassroots developer support and clear enterprise value,” said Glenn Solomon, Managing Partner at Notable Capital. “With a rapidly growing community and enterprise customer base, LocalStack has emerged as the de facto choice for AWS local development, and their recent preview release for Snowflake demonstrates their broader vision to make multi-cloud development more accessible.”
The funding will drive product enhancements, including chaos engineering and resiliency testing to strengthen cloud application robustness, and accelerate the company’s US expansion efforts.
LocalStack's Snowflake preview also opens the door to broader multi-cloud support, showing their commitment to supporting diverse cloud setups beyond AWS.
“We’re redefining the developer experience by making cloud application development more flexible, secure, and cost-effective, allowing our customers to innovate without limits,” said Waldemar Hummer, co-founder and Co-CEO.
The startup is headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland.
