Heritage Distilling Holding Company (Nasdaq: CASK) completed a $223.8 million private placement on August 15, 2025. Story Foundation led this significant financing round. The investment consequently included $95 million in cash and $128.8 million in $IP tokens.
This Heritage Distilling private placement supports a new $IP token digital asset treasury strategy. Other investors included a16z crypto, Amber Group, Arrington Capital, dao5, Hashed, Mirana Ventures, Neoclassic Capital, Open World, Polychain Capital, Selini Capital, Stix, and Syncracy Capital.
Strengthening Balance Sheet and Digital Asset Strategy
The transaction reduced total company liabilities by $19.3 million. Consequently, all senior secured debt was fully paid off. This action decreases annual interest expenses by over $2 million.
Heritage Distilling now holds over 53.2 million $IP tokens. These digital assets are valued at more than $320 million.
The company acquired 23.5 million $IP tokens using $80 million cash from the private placement. Heritage plans to manage these tokens for yield generation through staking activities. Additionally, the company renegotiated two major leases, reducing annual expenses by over $550,000. This move strengthens the balance sheet, similar to how companies like Coinbase manage their crypto reserves.
The $IP token is the native asset of Story, a blockchain technology platform. Story enables users to register intellectual property on-chain and manage usage terms via smart contracts. This infrastructure facilitates IP monetization for creators and AI agents, distinguishing it from general NFT marketplaces like OpenSea or blockchain developers like ConsenSys.
Story Foundation, which backed the Heritage Distilling private placement, launched its mainnet in February 2025. It received $136 million from a16z crypto, Polychain, and Samsung Ventures.
