British FoodTech startup Better Nature secured €1.2 million in new funding. Angel investors, including 70% existing backers, primarily contributed to the round. This capital injection follows a quarter with a 128% sales increase for the company.
The new funding will scale sales and marketing efforts. Furthermore, the company plans to expand product innovation. Funds will also build appeal among health-conscious and flexitarian consumers.
Driving Growth in Plant-Based Protein
Better Nature specializes in clean-label Better Nature tempeh products.
The company aims to penetrate the UK's €3.7 billion chicken market with its high-protein, gut-friendly plant-based alternatives. Its products are currently stocked at major UK retailers, including Tesco and Asda. Additionally, Better Nature products are available in over 1,300 stores across Germany.
Better Nature is the UK's leading tempeh brand by volume, holding 38.1% market share. Last year, it was the second fastest-growing meat-free brand in the UK. Sales rose by 457%.
International expansion continues for the UK startups firm. German revenues surged 330% in Q2 2025. The company has also expanded into Austria and plans launches in two more international markets this year.
The startup reformulated its core Better Nature tempeh product earlier this year. This boosted protein content to 22g per 100g serving. Consumer confidence in ultra-processed plant-based meat alternatives wanes. This favors whole-food options like tofu and seitan.
UK tempeh sales jumped 85% year-on-year. Better Nature appointed Helen Atkinson as head of sales in May. This precedes its largest-ever marketing campaign.
