Alta Secures $11 Million Seed Round to Revolutionize Personal Styling

Alta launched as an AI-powered personal styling and shopping platform. Users upload wardrobe photos, receipts, or leverage Alta’s database to build a virtual closet. The AI generates outfit recommendations and allows virtual try-ons via digital avatars, factoring in budget, lifestyle, calendar, and local weather.

Alta raised $11 million in seed funding. The round was led by Menlo Ventures, with participation from Benchstrength, Algaé Ventures (LVMH-backed), Phenomenal Ventures, and Anthroptic’s Anthrology fund. Angel investors include DoorDash CEO Tony Xu, supermodels Jasmine Tookes and Karlie Kloss, Rent the Runway co-founder Jenny Fleiss, Poshmark CEO Manish Chandra, and Michelle Obama’s stylist Meredith Koop.

Competitors include Whering, Cladwell, Google Shopping (AI experiments), and Pinterest (AI experiments). Alta aims to differentiate through proprietary technical architectures and interfaces focused on advanced personalization.

Alta will use the funds to expand its team and accelerate R&D. It partnered with the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). Originally based in San Francisco, Alta relocated to New York City to access the consumer AI ecosystem and facilitate European expansion. Additional partnerships include Marie Kondo for Oceania and planned collaborations with global retailers.
