AI podcast startup, Riverside, announced a $30 million Series C funding round on Monday. Led by Zeev Ventures, with participation from Seven Seven Six and angel investor Sam Lessin, this round brings the company’s total funding to $80 million.
Riverside offers a comprehensive suite of tools catering to content creators and businesses alike. Its features include studio-quality audio and video recording, full HD live streaming, AI-powered editing solutions, and automatic content repurposing for social media platforms.
According to the startup, “80% of top podcasters” rely on Riverside, with high-profile clients such as Google, Microsoft, and Marvel.
Key use cases for the platform include podcast production, video interviews, thought leadership content, and training materials. The startup's innovative approach combines ease of use with professional-grade tools, making it a one-stop solution for creators.
The podcasting industry continues to evolve but certain Generative AI trends are creating headwinds for the industry's future. Indeed, video formats are driving significant growth and audience engagement. Platforms like Spotify are leveraging video podcasts to enhance creator tools, increase retention, and meet rising demand, with more than 170 million users having watched video podcasts globally.
But the industry does face considerable challenges with the rise of Google's NoteBookLLM and ElevenLabs' auto-podcast creation features, among others. LLM are able to automatically create podcasts from written text with human-like conversation, all edited and packaged for publication.
Nevertheless, the startup’s AI driven features are a central focus of its growth strategy. These include automated transcription in over 100 languages, real-time text-based editing, and tools for creating shareable video clips. These capabilities have significantly reduced editing time for users, saving up to 80% of the effort compared to traditional methods.
With the new funding, Riverside plans to accelerate its AI-enhanced product roadmap, enabling even more streamlined workflows for content creators. The startup aims to achieve profitability by the end of 2026 while continuing to innovate and scale its offerings.
The video podcast craze was largely popularized by Joe Rogan's PowerfulJRE podcast, which currently boasts 18.6 million subscribers and 5.66 billion total views across 2,230 episodes, with an average length of over 1–3 hours, setting the standard for the format.
