Anthropic has officially opened its second Asian office in Bengaluru, India, signaling a deepened commitment to the region. The AI safety company announced new partnerships across enterprise, education, and agriculture sectors, underscoring India's importance as its second-largest market for Claude.ai.
The move follows a substantial increase in revenue, doubling its run-rate since October 2025. India's developer community is noted for its technically intensive AI work, with nearly half of Claude usage dedicated to computer and mathematical tasks like application building and software development.
Bridging the Language Divide
Recognizing that over a billion Indians speak languages other than English, Anthropic is actively working to improve AI model performance in local languages. Six months ago, the company initiated a project to curate higher-quality training data for ten of India's most widely spoken languages.
This initiative has already shown improvements in model fluency. Anthropic is now collaborating with Karya and the Collective Intelligence Project to develop evaluations for locally relevant tasks in domains like agriculture and law, partnering with organizations such as Digital Green and Adalat AI. These evaluations will inform future model enhancements for Indic language speakers and are intended to be made public.
Enterprise and Startup Adoption
Anthropic's India team will provide applied AI expertise to a growing customer base, including large enterprises, digital natives, and startups. Companies like Air India are leveraging Claude Code to expedite custom software development, while CRED has seen accelerated feature delivery and improved test coverage. Cognizant is deploying Claude to its 350,000 employees globally for modernizing legacy systems and supporting AI adoption.
Startups are also heavily utilizing Claude. Razorpay has integrated AI into its risk systems and decision-making, and Rocket enables non-technical teams to build applications quickly. Enterpret powers its AI assistant with Claude, and Emergent, a platform allowing software creation through natural language descriptions, achieved significant revenue and user growth built entirely on Claude.
Education and Public Sector Integration
Educational and instructional tasks constitute 12% of Claude.ai usage in India. Pratham, a large education nonprofit, is piloting its Anytime Testing Machine, powered by Claude, with 1,500 students across 20 schools. This tool aims to create flexible learning and certification pathways.
Anthropic is also partnering with the Central Square Foundation to enhance EdTech and AI for underserved communities, offering technical expertise and API credits for tools like personalized tutors and teacher coaching solutions. The company is exploring AI's potential in the public sector through a partnership with the EkStep Foundation, focusing on areas like agriculture and public health.
Driving Open Standards
Anthropic's open-source standard, the Model Context Protocol (MCP), is gaining traction. The Indian Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has launched an official Indian government MCP server, enabling access to national statistics. Swiggy uses MCP to integrate ordering and reservation capabilities directly within Claude.
The Bengaluru office, led by Managing Director of India Irina Ghose, will focus on hiring local talent across various roles, further solidifying Anthropic's presence and commitment to innovation in India.
