Andreessen Horowitz's crypto arm has invested $50 million in Jito. Jito is a key infrastructure protocol for the Solana blockchain.
The investment was a token purchase, providing the venture capital firm with an allotment of Jito's cryptocurrency to encourage long-term alignment.
Blockchains like Solana use a process called staking to secure their networks. Network operators, known as validators, lock up cryptocurrency to process transactions honestly. This method secures the blockchain but makes large amounts of capital illiquid and unusable for other purposes.
Jito provides a liquid staking solution to solve this problem. The technology allows validators and token holders to use their staked assets as if they were not locked up. This improves capital efficiency across the network and gives users more flexibility with their digital assets.
In addition to liquid staking, Jito also allows developers to prioritize how quickly their transactions are processed on Solana.
This investment marks the largest single commitment from one investor into the Jito protocol.
