Munich's Futurail Secures €7.5M for Autonomous Trains

Munich-based DeepTech startup Futurail closed a €7.5 million Seed funding round. Asterion Ventures and Leap435 co-led the investment. The company develops an autonomy stack for autonomous trains.

Futurail's technology, FUTURAIL Driver, integrates into new or existing trains. This system addresses the growing shortage of train drivers, enabling more efficient autonomous train operations. It also allows operators to run more services at lower costs.

The total €7.5 million comprises €5.5 million in seed investment, €1 million in public grants, and €1 million from a pre-seed conversion.

The funding will accelerate team expansion and key projects. Futurail also seeks regulatory approval for depot autonomy.

Founded in 2023 by Alex Haag, Dr. Patrick Dendorfer, and Maximilian Schöffer, the team brings expertise from Tesla and Argo AI. Additional investors include EIT Urban Mobility, Zero Infinity Partners, and Heroic Ventures. This diverse backing supports Futurail's mission.
