Lidwave Raises $10M to Advance On-Chip 4D LiDAR Technology

Lidwave has secured $10 million seed funding to accelerate the development of its 4D LiDAR-on-chip technology, promising to transform machine vision across industries such as autonomous vehicles and robotics. The round was led by Jumpspeed Ventures and Next Gear Ventures, with strategic investment from a Swedish truck manufacturer. The round also saw participation from Sapir Venture Partners, Teramips Technologies, Beyond-Electronics, and Howard Lee Morgan.

The startup plans to use the funding to launch the first software-definable 4D LiDAR sensor and expand its market presence.

Lidwave's Finite Coherent Ranging (FCR™) technology offers a competitive edge by addressing the limitations of traditional sensors, which often rely on multiple data sources—cameras and RADAR—to function effectively. The FCR™ approach leverages light’s coherence to measure depth and instantaneous velocity at the pixel level with unmatched precision. Thus, the need for complex data fusion or post-processing is eliminated. This breakthrough allows Lidwave’s sensors to stream real-time, high-quality raw data, including range, reflectivity, and velocity (Doppler) information, in a compact and cost-effective form.

The core innovation lies in Lidwave's ability to integrate the entire LiDAR system—lasers, amplifiers, and detectors—onto a single silicon chip, resulting in a true monostatic design where both transmission and reception occur from the same pixel. This streamlined architecture significantly reduces manufacturing complexity by eliminating the need for precise calibration, enabling large-scale, maintenance-free production. The compact sensor is robust, immune to glare and environmental interference, and designed for all-weather performance, making it ideal for a wide range of industrial and autonomous applications.

The startup has one patent granted and three pending in the fields of coherent light technology and optical interferometry for precise range, velocity, and Doppler detection. The granted patent focuses on integrating beam sources with interferometers for high-resolution distance measurement, while the pending patents introduce innovations such as noise modulation for enhanced coherence and frequency modulation for more accurate velocity detection.

Founded in 2021 by Yehuda Vidal, Yossi Kabessa, and Uri Weiss, Lidwave is a fabless semiconductor startup. It designs its chips in-house and partners with contract manufacturers for production.

While automotive applications are a long-term goal, the startup expects faster adoption in industrial automation and robotics, where immediate demand for advanced perception systems aligns with its technology’s strengths.
