Clyx, a social platform addressing the loneliness epidemic, recently closed a $14 million Series A funding round. Blitzscaling Ventures led the investment. Other participants included Iqram Magdon-Ismail, co-founder of Venmo, and investor Nico Rosberg.
The platform helps users discover and join local community events. Founder Alyx van der Vorm launched Clyx in 2020. She identified a significant challenge in coordinating social plans. Consequently, the app streamlines event discovery and friend connections.
Clyx Expands Social Connection Platform
Clyx aggregates event data from various sources, including Ticketmaster and TikTok. It then presents users with local activities. Furthermore, the app suggests places and allows users to see events their friends attend. A compatibility engine also recommends potential connections at events. This feature helps users meet like-minded individuals.
The company currently reports 50,000 active users purchasing tickets. Additionally, over 200,000 users browse events on the platform. Clyx also offers "Programs," which are event series designed to foster repeated interactions among participants. This repetition helps acquaintances develop into friendships.
Clyx presently operates in Miami and London. The company plans to launch in New York this month. Subsequently, it will expand to Sao Paulo later this year.
While other platforms like Meetup and Eventbrite offer event discovery, Clyx focuses on deeper social connections. Bumble also features a friend-finding option. Clyx aims to simplify going out with friends as much as staying home. The platform ultimately seeks to improve users' mental health through belonging.
