Child Care Marketplace Bumo Raises $10M Seed Funding

Bumo, an on-demand child care marketplace, secured $10 million in seed funding. True Ventures and Offline Ventures led this Bumo seed funding round. Goodwater Capital and Marketplace Capital also participated. Angel investors Jennifer Carolan, Rachel Barnes, Jamie Chung, Ellen Chen, Karina Kruse, and Vanessa Dew contributed to the round.

Founded in 2019 by Joan Nguyen and Chriselle Lim, Bumo initially offered co-working spaces with on-site child care. The company adapted during the pandemic, launching BumoBrain, a virtual learning platform. In 2024, Bumo fully launched its tech-driven, on-demand child care marketplace. This platform provides instant booking capabilities and eliminates subscription fees.

Scaling Flexible Child Care Solutions

Bumo aims to become a leading infrastructure for flexible child care. The platform optimizes underutilized capacity into accessible opportunities. Parents can book trusted care in real-time. Moreover, providers also maximize unused resources through Bumo.

The platform offers full-time, part-time, seasonal, and backup care options. Unlike traditional, often inflexible child care services, Bumo offers immediate access to vetted providers. Similar to how platforms like Care.com or Sittercity connect families with caregivers, Bumo focuses on instant, on-demand solutions. This Bumo seed funding will accelerate its market penetration.

Bumo currently operates in nearly 200 cities, spanning from Orange County through Los Angeles to the Bay Area. It has facilitated almost half a million hours of child care services. The platform lists over 17,000 searchable child care programs and camps for children aged 0-17. Furthermore, Bumo collaborates with national partners like Learning Care Group and Boys & Girls Club.

This Bumo seed funding round marks a pivotal moment for the company. Bumo anticipates a 15x growth increase by 2025. The capital infusion will enable Bumo's expansion into additional cities. It will also support team growth and platform enhancements.
