Anthropic has inked a substantial compute deal with SpaceX, aiming to dramatically expand its AI processing power. The partnership grants the AI company access to all compute capacity at SpaceX's Colossus 1 data center.

This agreement unlocks over 300 megawatts of new capacity, expected to include more than 220,000 NVIDIA GPUs within the month. This influx of resources directly supports higher usage limits for Anthropic's Claude Pro and Claude Max subscribers, alongside improvements to the Claude Code and Claude API. According to Anthropic News, these changes are effective immediately, reflecting rapid progress on securing necessary compute infrastructure. The Anthropic SpaceX compute deal is a critical step in scaling its advanced AI models.

Increased Claude Accessibility

Alongside the SpaceX partnership, Anthropic is doubling Claude Code's five-hour rate limits for its Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans. They are also removing peak hour reductions for Pro and Max accounts and significantly raising API rate limits for Claude Opus models.

These adjustments aim to enhance the experience for dedicated users and reflect Anthropic's ongoing efforts to boost Anthropic compute capacity.

Broader Compute Strategy

The SpaceX deal complements Anthropic's existing compute expansion efforts. These include a massive up to 5 gigawatt agreement with Amazon, a 5 GW deal with Google and Broadcom, and a strategic partnership with Microsoft and NVIDIA for $30 billion in Azure capacity.

The company also announced a $50 billion investment in American AI infrastructure with Fluidstack. Anthropic trains and operates its models on a diverse hardware stack, including AWS Trainium, Google TPUs, and NVIDIA GPUs.

Orbital AI Ambitions

As part of the SpaceX agreement, Anthropic has expressed interest in collaborating on developing gigawatts of orbital AI compute capacity. This forward-looking aspect highlights a potential future direction for large-scale AI processing.

Anthropic is also expanding internationally to meet regulatory and data residency needs for enterprise clients in sectors like finance, healthcare, and government.

The company reiterated its commitment to covering US consumer electricity price increases caused by its data centers and is exploring similar commitments for international locations.
